Extra safety for Chevrolet Volt

As one of the most important new cars to reach the UK in years, the Chevrolet Volt has been on sale in America for some time. Now, Chevrolet has announced some modifications to the Volt’s structure and battery coolant system, for added safety and peace of mind.

The Volt has already achieved a five-star Euro NCAP crash test award, so these modifications focus on protecting the battery from the possibility of an electrical fire. The car’s side-impact protection levels will be strengthened, with a sensor added to the battery coolant reservoir and a bracket fitted to prevent overfilling.

In addition to the rigorous tests already undertaken (equivalent to 25 years of continuous operation), Chevrolet are confident that their electric car is as good as it can possibly be, with 20 million miles of low-emissions motoring racked up by Volt owners during 2011.
