When Chrysler’s new Ypsilon went on sale at the end of last year, it introduced a welcome (and some might say much-needed) dose of style into the supermini sector.
This innovatively designed city car may share some mechanicals with the Fiat 500, but as a piece of design, it manages to combine uniqueness with plenty of its parent company’s DNA.
From the front, there are hints of Chrysler’s classic PT Cruiser in the Ypsilon’s nose, while at the rear, those curving Y-shaped tail lights are reminiscent of the Ypsilon symbol in the Greek alphabet, with a discreet roof spoiler containing the high-level brake light, The outsized chrome Chrysler badge, horizontal rear wiper and blackened window surrounds bear a strong family resemblance to the Ypsilon’s bigger brother, the Delta; this is also true of the side view, where a steeply kinked rear window meets a sloping roofline.
