Considering the fact that 2011 was Jeep’s 70th anniversary, it seems fitting that this famous all-American brand should start the new year with an award for its oldest vehicle.
The Wrangler traces its lineage back to Jeep’s inception as a wartime manufacturer of go-anywhere military vehicles, and it is therefore a deserving recipient of an Icon award from 4×4 Magazine.
The Wrangler received a mild revamp and refresh last year, maintaining its legendary off-road prowess and augmenting it with greater on-road refinement.
In declaring it the winner of the Icon award, 4×4 Magazine’s editor Nigel Fryatt praised the Wrangler’s blend of abilities and in particular its improved road manners: “Once behind the wheel in the rough stuff, the Wrangler effortlessly confirms what makes a great off-roader. Add that it’s now civilised and comfortable to drive to the shops, and there really was no contest.”
